Northern Stars Documentary Academy
Northern Stars Documentary Academy is an annual programme delivered at Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle giving young people aged 15-18 across the North East an opportunity to develop new skills in filmmaking, ignite in them a lifelong passion for film, and develop key employability skills.
The programme is a partnership between Intu Properties plc (Eldon Square and Metrocentre), Tyneside Cinema and Northern Stars.
Northern Stars at Tyneside Cinema offers training and employment to some of the North East’s most talented young filmmakers. The Northern Stars Documentary and Fiction Programmes provide training in film production for young people aged 15-18, offering an entry point for young people interested in building a career in the film and television industry.
Tyneside Cinema is one of the UK’s leading independent specialised film and media venues. Alongside its programmes of new world cinema and moving image arts the cinema is also famous as a screen heritage attraction, housed in its spectacular Grade II listed building in the heart of Newcastle.
Tyneside Cinema’s multi-faceted Learning and Participation programme offers a wide range of film-based activities, events and programmes for young people, teachers and lecturers throughout the year. Tyneside Cinema is an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation and also receives revenue funding from Newcastle City Council, BFI and Creative England.
Intu Properties plc owns and operates some of the very best shopping centres, in the strongest locations right across the country, including ten of the UK’s top 25. Over 80,000 people are employed at intu shopping centres across the UK and they are fully committed to supporting their local communities and the wider environment through meaningful and hands-on initiatives.
